1. EDUCATE YOURSELF
Try to educate yourself about medical procedures that are involved in becoming a Surrogate Mother/ Gestational Carrier.
Internet offers tremendous number of resources. Most IVF clinics describe the procedure of IVF/IUI in great
details with explanations and photos. Learn about requirements and procedures.
2. PREPARE A LETTER TO THE INTENDED PARENTS.
In order to save time, write few paragraphs about yourself, your
family, etc. Expect that the Intended Parents may ask you a lot of
questions about your health condition, reproductive history, and family
history. If you have few paragraphs about yourself, it will demonstrate
that you are a serious and organized person. In addition, it will save
you a lot of time.
3. MEET YOUR INTENDED PARENTS IN PERSON.
It is very important to meet your Intended Parents in person. E-mail or telephone
communication may not be always accurate.
4. ALWAYS HAVE SURROGACY CONTRACT.
You need a Surrogacy Contract before starting any tests or /and medical
procedures. If you do not have a Contract clearly stating who is paying
for your medical procedures, tests, etc. you become liable for all
these charges.
5. MAKE SURE THAT THE INTENDED PARENTS AGREE TO COVER ALL MEDICAL EXPENSES AND CO-PAYS.
When signing Surrogacy Contract, make sure that the Intended Parents
agree to pay for all incurred medical expenses. Clinics and hospitals
will be issuing bills into your name, since you are a patient there. By
not paying these bills you are risking to damage your credit history.
6. SET UP TIME FRAMES.
In some occasions, the Intended Parents may not be ready to begin their
journey. Set up your time frames clearly before entering any surrogacy
arrangement. Contact as many agencies as possible and let them know
that you are looking for a match.
